The new shelter house in the Churdan city park was officially opened Saturday, June 6, as part of Churdan Fun Day.

The shelter features a large, enclosed room with tables and chairs, a sink and storage area, heat and air conditioning, and two restrooms. There’s also a spacious porch area on the north side of the building.

The $130,000 price tag was covered entirely by donations. Grow Greene County was a major funder with $50,000 awarded to the project in 2025. Fundraising was a community effort, with more than 65 businesses, families and individuals donating $100 or more. The Churdan Lions Club was a driving force in the project.
The shelter house can be reserved by calling Churdan city offices at 515-389-3334.
